The Rotary Memorial Fountain Project

The Pullman Rotary Memorial Fountain Project is a community-driven effort to replace broken and outdated water fountains at Pullman’s City Playfields with modern, ADA-accessible, pet-friendly drinking fountains that serve people, pets, and the broader community.

Led by the Rotary Club of Pullman in partnership with the City of Pullman Parks and Recreation Department, the Memorial Fountain Project reflects Rotary’s enduring commitment to Service Above Self by delivering practical, lasting improvements that enhance everyday life in Pullman.

At its core, the Memorial Fountain Project honors the lives and legacies of Pullman Rotarians whose service helped shape the community we enjoy today. Inspired by the life and service of Rotarian John Brewer, the project is designed to grow over time as a living tribute—one that connects remembrance with real, ongoing benefit for the Pullman community.

Project Overview

The Memorial Fountain Project will replace nonfunctioning and outdated water fountains at Pullman’s City Playfields with modern, multiuse fountain units designed for today’s public spaces.

Each installation is designed to provide reliable access to clean drinking water while supporting durability, accessibility, and ease of maintenance. Fountain features include:

  • ADA-accessible drinking fountains
  • Integrated water bottle–filling stations
  • Self-draining pet bowls
  • Durable, low-maintenance construction

Decorative, engraved bricks will be installed around the fountain area.

Together, these features ensure the fountains meet the needs of people, pets, and park facilities staff—while delivering a practical, long-term improvement to Pullman’s public parks.

Why This Project Matters

Public parks are places where community life unfolds—where families gather, children play, teams compete, and neighbors connect. Access to clean, reliable drinking water is a basic public amenity that supports health, accessibility, and environmental responsibility in shared public spaces.

The Memorial Fountain Project directly aligns with Rotary’s Areas of Focus by advancing the following priorities:

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene

    • The project provides reliable access to clean drinking water in public spaces through modern, sanitary fountain infrastructure designed for everyday community use.

Protecting Our Environment

    • Bottle-filling stations help reduce reliance on single-use plastic bottles, supporting more sustainable habits and reducing waste in Pullman’s parks.

In addition to these direct areas of focus, the project also supports broader Rotary priorities through its design and community impact:

Supporting Disease Prevention and Treatment

    • Self-draining pet bowls and modern fountain design eliminate standing water, reducing conditions that attract pests and mosquitoes and supporting healthier public environments

Supporting Community Economic Development

    • Well-maintained, accessible park amenities contribute to Pullman’s overall livability by supporting community gatherings, recreation, and events that strengthen shared civic spaces and local vitality.

How You Can Support the Project: Purchase a Commemorative Brick

Commemorative bricks are the primary fundraiser for the Memorial Fountain Project. Each engraved brick becomes a permanent part of the fountain site, creating a lasting tribute to people, pets, organizations, or causes that matter to you.

Bricks may be engraved to:

  • Honor the memory of a family member, friend, or loved one
  • Celebrate a beloved pet
  • Recognize a family, organization, or business
  • Mark a personal or Rotary-related tribute

All brick orders, engraving details, and payment processing are handled directly through Brick Markers.
